Celebrate Jour de Bastille in True Parisian Style

J. Graham’s French Buffet Commemorates Bastille Day

No need to dust off the French dictionary and dig out the passports this year, Bastille Day is sailing across the Atlantic and landing in  Louisville with a célébration Française! On Monday, July 14 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. J. Graham’s Café in The Brown Hotel will celebrate in style with a French buffet that would satisfy King Louis XVI himself! The buffet includes a glass of J. Graham’s house wine, the ultimate complement to any Parisian meal. The event is $14 per person plus tax and gratuity.

The French buffet will include delectable menu items such as the Pistou Soup, Salade Niçoise, Tomato Dijon Salad, Mussel Marinière, Veal Blanquette, Ratatouille, Rice Pilaf, Cod Provençale and an array of mini pastries. French bread and traditional cheese trays will also be offered.

The Thoroughbred Restaurant, located on the second floor of The Brown Hotel, will be offering a Bastille Day special from 3 to 10 p.m. The special is a Steak Frites Salad for $14 plus tax and gratuity. Bon Appétit!

Chef's Table at The English Grill - Throughout The Year

Delight in a true culinary adventure with The English Grill's Chef's Table. The experience can be enjoyed right in the restaurant's kitchen, up close with The Brown Hotel's Executive Chef Laurent Géroli, as he creates masterpieces using the freshest local ingredients.   The special seven-course prix fixe menu gives guests an opportunity to dine in the Hotel's main kitchen while engaging Chef Géroli for a lively discussion about ingredients, wine, cooking techniques and the art of making four-star cuisine.

The seven-course Chef's Table, a Louisville tradition known as "the ultimate dining experience," is a gastronomic indulgence complete with wine pairings and is $150 per person plus tax and gratuity. The minimum number of guests to reserve the Chef's Table is 4, and the maximum is 8. As a courtesy, seven-course Chef's Table local guests can request to be picked up or dropped off by the hotel van (available for parties of eight).

Monday, July 7, 2008: Lionello Marchesi Showcases Tuscan Wines at The Brown Hotel

On Monday, July 7 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., The Brown Hotel is proud to present Lionello Marchesi, the successful Italian industrialist who devoted himself to his passion for wine thirty years ago with the acquisition of three Tuscan estates. Today, his Castello di Monastero, Coldisole, and Poggio Alle Sughere are the sites of some of the noblest vineyards in Italy, and wines from Marchesi’s estates are enjoyed in 22 countries. Marchesi is a passionate connoisseur and The Brown Hotel is honored to bring him to Louisville for a tasting event in the elegant Lobby Bar. Marchesi will be showcasing three of the finest wines from his vineyards, and complementing the vintages will be Tuscan hors d’oeuvres prepared by The Brown Hotel executive chef Laurent Géroli. Learn Tips and Techniques From The Brown Hotel’s Executive Chef

The Brown Hotel’s chef Laurent Géroli is known for his charming presence and fascinating tips and techniques at The English Grill’s chef’s table, and now Louisville foodies can have the behind-the scenes experience at a fraction of the price with two exclusive events. Chef Géroli will serve up a tasty lesson followed by lunch at each of two cooking demonstration classes offered this summer. The first, on Saturday, July 19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., will focus on fine French cuisine, and on Saturday, August 23 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. chef Géroli will bring the mystique of Morocco to Louisville. Guests should arrive at 9:30 a.m. and be ready to learn! Classes cost $55 per person which includes tax. Gratuity is additional. Local Artist Nicholas Croghan Brings a Fresh Perspective to the Gallery at the Brown Hotel

Local Artist’s Exhibit Opening Reception June 20

The Gallery at The Brown Hotel proudly presents an exhibition of new work by University of Louisville alumnus Nicholas Croghan. The show will open on Monday, June 20 with a wine and cheese reception from 6 to 8 pm that is open to the public. On view through August 1, the show offers a unique opportunity for enthusiasts to add a piece by this up-and-coming artist to their collections.

“The Brown is ecstatic to host such an edgy and modern show, it is unlike anything we have exhibited before,” said Katherine Bennett, Gallery at The Brown manager. “Nicholas Croghan’s work won the popular vote for our Hot Brown Art contest and we are so excited to exhibit more creations from this up and coming local artist.”

The English Grill presents a very special evening featuring wines from Beringer Vinyards, with guest speaker Jamie Alexander Stewart, Sommelier. The Brown Hotel's Executive Chef Laurent Géroi has created a special menu for the occasion.

Begin the most romantic evening of the year at The English Grill with a five-course prix fixe prepared by The Brown Hotel’s executive chef Laurent Géroli. Begin with Salmon and Rabbit Rillettes, Duck Confit Risotto, and Cauliflower Soup with Fresh Black Truffle and Foie Gras. Entrée choices include Pan-seared Blue Fin Tuna, American Buffalo Strip Steak and Roasted Quails with wild rice. Indulge in a sweet finish like the Black Forest Panna Cotta and Bing Cherries drizzled with a sweet caramel-chocolate bourbon sauce. Toast the evening with a glass of G.H. Tuesday, February 5, 2008: The Brown Hotel Announces 4th Annual Hot Chocolate Celebration

Shake off the winter chill and celebrate Mardi Gras at The Brown Hotel on Fat Tuesday, February 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. for the 4th Annual Hot Chocolate Celebration. The whole family can enjoy a variety of gourmet hot chocolate and hors d’oeuvres created by The Brown Hotel’s executive chef Laurent Géroli and his culinary team in the lobby of the historic hotel. The cost of each cup of hot chocolate is $5 and includes a set of Mardi Gras beads. All of the proceeds will directly benefit The Home of the Innocents and Court Appointed Special Advocates(CASA).  

This year’s selection of chocolate refreshments includes something exotic, a taste of white chocolate and something fruity. Spanish Chocolate Amore, featuring the sweet and spicy flavor of cumin, red pepper and honey cinnamon, will be available along with White Hot Chocolate,  an almond-flavored drink with bourbon chocolate shaving. Make sure to try the Soy Milk Hot Chocolate too. Guests will be able to balance the sweet treats with savory delights, as complimentary tastes of the legendary hot brown will be available along with other hors d’oeuvres.
